Note on Husband: William Golding RIERSON
In 1855 WG RIERSON bought 150 acres on both sides of Mountain Creek for $275.00, from James Madison Covington (DB 18, pg 511). James Covington's wife was a sister of Dr. Lariston Hardin Hill. The 1860 census lists WG Rierson as a farmer.
In the 1870 census, WG RIERSON is shown living in the Meadows Township and working as a miller at W. J. Moore's Corn & Wheat Mill.
In 1880 census, shown as a farmer, living in township of Meadows, with Malindy and grandson, James R., 6 yr old. In this census, Malinda's father and mother were shown to be born in Virginia.
According to great-grandson William Dalton Rierson, Jr., Greenberry was a prohibition officer (home guard) during the Civil War. He is said to have told his friends and relatives to "just don't let me see you" (with alcoholic drinks).
Based on reports that Frank and Fannie Petree moved from Bolejack Road to the Friendship community in the late 1800's, John Rierson marrying Julie Moser in 1895 and buying land on (now) Rierson Road, and Greenberry and Malinda living with John and Julie in the 1900 census, the logical conclusion is that Fannie and Frank moved to Greenberry's old farm about 1895. There is no apparent deed to this transfer. Others have pointed out that daughters were often given the land of her parents without any registration of the transaction in the Register of Deeds Office. We might also note that N. O. Petree, Frank's brother, was Clerk of Superior Court for Stokes County about that time (1887 - 1901).
Note on Wife: Malinda Sharpe ALLEN
According to the 1880 census, Malinda's father and mother were born in Virginia. Malinda is reportedly related to the ALLEN's who were involved in the Hillsville, VA, courthouse shootout.
